Committee supports moves to improve the transparency of political financing
Federal Parliament’s Electoral Matters Committee has supported proposals to improve the transparency of funding and expenditure in the political system in a report tabled in the House of Representatives today.

Treaties report against the sale of uranium to Russia

Honey bee industries calls for $50 million in biosecurity
A new report on the honey bee industries is calling for $50 million to be spent on increasing biosecurity to shield Australian honey bees from pests that could inturn threaten billions of dollars in agriculture.

Report on greenhouse gas storage released
A parliamentary committee has released its report into the Draft Offshore Petroleum Amendment (Greenhouse Gas Storage) Bill 2008 on 15 August, which provides for carbon dioxide sequestration in offshore Commonwealth waters.

Treaties Committee supports the protection of endangered fauna and flora
The Federal Parliament’s Treaties Committee has released a report supporting amendments to the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora subject to a number of recommendations.

The Joint Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade will hold its first public hearing next week for its inquiry into the compensation issues surrounding former Royal Australian Air Force personnel and their families affected by the deseal/reseal cleaning process of fuel tanks on F-111 bombers. The Department of Veterans’ Affairs and the Department of Defence, along with the Commonwealth Ombudsman, will appear before the Defence Sub-Committee on Monday 21 July.
